Who is an education counselor?
An education counselor is a trained professional who is entrusted to assist and equip learners with leadership traits. An education counselor does this by first going through the students’ workloads, GPA’s and educate them about the tactics they should employ to realize a significant improvement. He/she should study and analyze the programs every learner should undertake to make positive progress on a personal level.
It is also the responsibility of the education counselor to bridge the gap between the student and the teacher and join hands with the tutor on what is perfect for the individual learner and the best possible plan to cope up with emerging challenges.
The counselor also has to make a follow-up about the progress of the students assigned to him or her until the completion of the program. Primary and secondary school counselors are also liable for aiding teachers and parents to access whether the student is ready to move to the next class or level.
Roles of an education counselor
Education counselors spend half of their time teaching in classes and the other half helping the students with social affairs that ruin their performance in class and even in their entire lives. They are also aware of the available resources meant to help students to realize their potential when appropriately utilized.
Education counselors are trained on how to identify issues in a learner’s behavior. For instance, a teacher may discover the performance of a particular student began to decline when the learner started to miss some classes. The teacher will call the student and talk with him or her before referring him or her to the counselor for more advice. The counselor will evaluate the situation and may decide to summon the student and his/her parent for a meeting. This will allow the student to express his or her concerns and even the parent. The counselor would be liable for developing and implementing programs meant to help the learner to deal with these issues accordingly.
